The Khlui is one of the oldest flutes known to man. It has been made in Thailand, where it is still a popular instrument to this day.

At the bottom of this page you will find a finger sheet.

How to play the Khlui

  • Blow into the mouthpiece at the end of the flute
  • It's very easy, just like blowing a recorder
  • The khlui is played in front of you, it's very comfortable to hold
  • Seven top holes for the fingers, one backhole for the thumb

The musical possibilities

  • You can play in Major and Minor
  • You can 'bend' notes by slowly sliding your finger off the fingerhole
  • The khlui has a reach of over an octave
